Chris Judd Carlton Superstar

Widely regarded as one of the best in the game and a premium midfielder by anyone’s standard, Judd made the move from from the West Coast Eagles (where he won a Brownlow and a premiership) to Carlton in 2008. Recognised as a great at both clubs, Judd’s hunger, work rate and skill have driven Carlton forward in 2010, where they remain in finals contention after finishing 5th (2011)

An outsider at last years Brownlow, with odds as long as 17-1, Judd was the surprise winner of Charlie that year easily taking care of Collingwood ball magnet Dane Swan (the shortest favourite since winner Shane Crawford in 1999). This year the bets are rolling in and Judd could potentially be at odds of less than $1.50 by the time the big night rolls around.

If there is one thing that the Brownlow Medal has taught us over the years it is that there is no such thing as a sure thing, so it will be interesting to see how Chris Judd polls in 2011.

Carlton lost by 20 points to St Kilda on on Saturday. Chris Judd picked up 24 possession and was not named in the best for Carlton on the AFL website. For a mere mortal you would consider this a definite no vote performance, but you can never count Juddy. This game shouldn’t have a positive impact on his Brownlow Medal chances… but you never know.

Judd recently won the AFLPA award for the best player of 2011, but this is not always a good indicator.  Only Ben Cousins in 2005 went on to win both the Brownlow Medal and the AFLPA award.  Judd’s betting odds have moved out slightly, so he is providing even better value than before.
